Atrial Fibrillation Ablation Procedure

Atrial Fibrillation Ablation in Hawaii

Your Hawaii cardiologist may have discussed atrial fibrillation or afib with you. Atrial fibrillation is a common irregular heart arrhythmia which could potentially have adverse consequences such as reduction in the blood pumped to the body, or potential stroke causing clots.

The recommended treatment would be atrial fibrillation ablation which is a non-surgical procedure where catheters are advanced from the groin into the left atrium or left upper chamber of the heart. During atrial fibrillation ablation, the tips of the catheters emit heat, which, when applied against the inner wall of the left atrium, creates a scars. This scar inside the left atrium disrupts the arrhythmia of atrial fibrillation, hopefully restoring a normal heart rhythm.
